How to Choose a Bar Dining Table

The right bar table and bar stools can add something special to any entertaining area. But where to begin? The available options seem almost limitless, but don't despair. The following tips can help pick out the ideal addition to your hosting space.

Available Room

First, measure out your available space carefully before you begin your search. If you plan to put your table in a kitchenette or a small corner, your best option is a round bar table or a square table with a folding leaf that can accommodate more people. Bar stools without backs conserve some space by easily sliding under the table.

Material

Next, figure out what material you plan on using. In general, glass is easier to clean and goes well with modern styles, but can be a major hazard when it breaks. Different types of wood can add the right accent to your décor and in a pinch can be stained a different color, but are more expensive and less damage resistant. Metal tables are much more invulnerable and easy to clean, but they tend to be less attractive.

Style

Thirdly, choose a style. Old or even antique styles, usually incorporating wood, will go well will with an overall fancier or old-fashioned room design. Alternatively, for a more modern look, try metal or glass tables with a utilitarian appearance or incorporating modern themes in the artwork. Simple wood furniture can create a more relaxed and natural air. Keep in mind that your best bet is to maintain a consistent theme throughout your room.

Bar Stools

The natural complement to bar tables, bar stools should be well matched to the table they will go with. However, you do not have to use the same materials in both; for example, metal stools with a glass table, or wood stools with a metal table. Also make sure the stools are at a comfortable height to go with your bar dining tables; usually, the stool should reach to about a foot lower than the surface of the table. For space between the stools, leave about 3 or 4 inches.

Follow these guidelines, and you will be able to find the best bar dining tables and bar stools for your entertainment purposes, hopefully ones that match your existing accommodations and serve your guests well. Since your bar tables and stools are likely to be with you for a number of years, you’ll be happy you made the right choice the first time around.
